2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid Design
The Kia Sorento is a stylish SUV in any form, and a hybrid is no exception. A bold front fascia combines triple-beam headlamps with a tapered tiger-nose grille, while large black vents at the bottom of the bumper hide four-way LED fog lamps.
Artificial skid plates don’t actually protect thee form, thermally, but its bright silver finish looks neat. The only feature that clearly differentiates the hybrid Sorento from the petrol model is the upturned air vents in each corner of the bumper.
The runway red paint — a $445 option — is a good option to pair with the edgy look, but the small (by today’s standards) 17-inch wheels don’t give the hybrid as well as the gas Sorento on the 20 or 21. A healthy 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque come from a turbocharged 1.6 litter hybrid unit. That’s not exactly blistering for a three-row SUV, but again, it’s just silly to expect your Sorento Hybrid’s impressive straight-line speed. This powertrain is very brave Town,
In Townie, with enough torque to overtake and attack highway ramps with ease. But there’s no dedicated EV mode — that feature is reserved for plug-ins.
Unlike the petrol Sorento – which drives much better – the hybrid feels more like an appliance. It’s softer than the standard model, so it doesn’t handle corners well. Turns really badly. Body roll is important, tires are too soft and cornering vague.
The steering is still as light as it is in the gas model here at least manoeuvring easily in tight parking lots, but otherwise it lacks any feedback.
